Families new to Cottonwood are invited to join the faculty for coffee and a brief assembly before adjourning to classrooms to meet teachers.

Habari gani! Unasema Kiswahili? That’s Swahili for “How are you? Do you speak Swahili?” We’re going on an African Safari this year and we can’t wait to get started! Our expedition will be gathering on Saturday, August 20 at 8:30 AM at our Cottonwood School Base Camp to meet with our rafikis and enjoy a fortifying pancake breakfast before we begin our journey together. I hope you’ll join us! You can bring your school supplies, check out the classrooms and meet the new teachers. You will get to meet new rafikis and find out what tribe you’ve been assigned to this year! I know you’re wild about learning so we will meet up and then scoot off on a scavenger hunt with our families and then meet with your teachers in the classroom. This year, we’ll learn to sing and dance and drum and tell stories about people from all over Africa. We’ll learn to locate the habitats of twiga, simba and tembo. You may want to bring your camera with you because you’ll want to capture your adventures beginning on the very first day! When I see you….I’ll say JAMBO! Will you say it back?
