We believe that drama encourages self-expression, cooperation, body awareness, confidence, and empathy.

All Cottonwood School students participate in the Drama Program each week led by our Drama Teacher, Sivan Gordon-Buxbaum. Sivan (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and educator with over a decade of teaching experience. She earned her BFA in Acting from Brooklyn College in 2019 and has performed in both New York City and her hometown of Albuquerque. She is thrilled to be back on the local stage as the title role in Antigone at the Vortex Theatre in the fall! As an educator, Sivan loves teaching Shakespeare to kids and finds endless joy in creating at the intersection of play, storytelling, and devised theater. She can’t wait to see what beautiful stories her students bring to life this year!

At Cottonwood School, we believe that drama encourages self-expression, cooperation, body awareness, confidence, and empathy. The Cottonwood School drama classes are process-oriented and play-based, allowing for creative problem solving and artistic collaboration. Each week, drama classes are scheduled for our Early Childhood, Junior Elementary, and Senior Elementary classes, where the students' personal and social skills are strengthened within the class through improv games, storytelling exercises, costume and set design experience, and performance rehearsals.
